New Career?

Last weekend, I had a mini-marathon of Showtime's new show about a high-priced call girl in London, Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

I don't think it's any secret that there's a fascination with hookers (just ask Charlie Sheen and Robert Downey Jr.!), especially in light of the recent Spitzer scandal. And what makes this show AWESOME isn't the tawdry sex stuff (of which there is plllllenty), but that the main character Hannah (call-girl name: Belle) is totally relatable, someone you would hang out with and giggle over cocktails with, smart and sassy and fun.

Which of course led me to exclaim, "I want to be a high-priced call girl who gets to have sex with hot British guys for lots and lots of money!" That was, of course, before she had to have sex with the old guy with hair coming out of his ears who had a fetish for horses and kept his white knee high socks on...

That and I'm not exactly sure how one gets into the high-priced hooker business. I'm already trying to find a literary agent for my novel, do I really also want to find a prostitute agent? And what if I got them confused? That would be an uncomfortable conversation.

Plus, I still haven't exactly figured out how one becomes a high-class call girl, versus your standard run-of-the-mill streetwalking prostitute. It's probably all about the marketing, right?

When I asked my friend R (post-Spitzer scandal) why one would spend THAT much money on sex, he responded, "Well it's kind of like sushi. It's one of those things that you would rather pay extra money for to ensure that you don't get sick. Same principle."

Love it.
